VERICHROME specializes in spectral imaging and colour management, developing hardware solutions across the electromagnetic spectrum. Our Smart Target utilizes spectral, not colour data. This approach is significantly more accurate than chromatic adaptation with traditional LMS derivative spaces like RGB, Lab, XYZ, as desired colours can be calculated on the fly instead of relying on fixed colour values or XYZ coordinates. Our DSR™ technology enables precision colour reproduction under almost any lighting condition. We also license our Mantis, Nautilus, and Novus lens technology engineered to expand human visual perception. These solutions cater to diverse fields such as cinematography, art preservation, and scientific imaging, providing innovative tools for both professional spectral imaging and new visual experiences in everyday life.
Direct Scene-Referred profiles offer significant advantages over traditional colour management:
Our Smart target is a physical spectral colour reference that enables the creation of automatic Direct Scene-Referred (DSR™) Input Device Transforms (IDTs). It operates across a wide range of lighting conditions and allows for precision relighting of captured images, surpassing simple chromatic adaptation techniques.

The VERICHROME Smart Target is ideal for:
This is a RAW image containing the colour target. Our software only analyzes the target portion, but we're showing the full image for context. Notice how dark, desaturated and green it looks? That's typical for unprofiled RAW data displayed directly!
Chameleon software kicks in, using FFT deconvolution to locate those fancy bullseye markings on the Smart Target.
Once located, Chameleon decodes and analyzes only the target. This cropped view gives Chameleion all she needs without wasting resources processing the whole frame.
Fine alignment markings between patches are identified and registered for fisheye/geometric/non-geometric/warp untransforming. This precise alignment corrects image distortions, ensuring accurate colour analysis.
The Roundcode on the target is read, matched to its unique serialized spectral data, and transmitted to Chameleon. This computes desired colours based on the target's spectral reflectance curves and the desired illuminant.
Each patch is measured, filtered for imperfections, and averaged. These samples correct for vignetting. Once complete, the colour matrix is solved!
Here's the target with the scene relative input device transform applied. Notice the diagonal triangles and indicator squares? They compare ideal to captured colours. Most patches match closely, with only 2-3 showing minor differences. The overlay shows Life, Fugitive UV, Relative IR, and serial number data.
Finally, Chameleon embeds the Relative IDT into your footage. This transform tells software how to interpret and represent colours, accurately showing how they'd look under the desired illuminant, regardless of actual shooting conditions. Original image data remains unmodified unless you choose to burn in the overlay.

Unlock a hidden world of colour and light with Mantis, our patent-pending divergent lens technology that expands your visual perception beyond human limits.
Mantis doesn't just enhance your vision—it transforms it. By leveraging the phenomenon of binocular rivalry, specifically colour rivalry, Mantis reveals a vibrant, dynamic world that's always been there, just beyond your reach.
This combination induces visual colour rivalry - a perceptual phenomenon where the brain processes two different inputs simultaneously. The result demonstrates how materials that appear identical under normal viewing conditions while having differing spectral signatures.
Spectral transmission from 350 to 750 nanometers. The cyan curve represents the left lens, which adds perception in the cyan-blue and near-infrared (NIR) range. The orange straight line represents the right lens's neutral transmission. Note the UV cut naturally present within the base lens material.
The metameric split patches at the bottom center of the Smart target, normally indistinguishable, become clearly differentiated with Mantis
These alternating images demonstrate the visual effect. While they accurately represent the visual difference, the full cognitive experience requires direct observation. The changing images reveal hidden patterns, enhanced details, and visual information typically invisible to unassisted human vision.
For a more authentic demonstration, the cross-eye (Walleye) viewing method offers direct comparison:

Step into a world where Nautilus separates your vision into two realms: matte colour and shimmering gloss. Our patent pending technology uses polarization diversity to unveil a shiny and lustrous visual landscape.
Binocular rivalry, a phenomenon first described in 1593, occurs when our eyes receive different stimuli simultaneously. Nautilus builds upon centuries of scientific research and artistic exploration to bring this unique effect into everyday life.
Standard polarized lenses employ identical 90° orientation for both eyes, offering uniform glare reduction but limiting perceptual depth.
Nautilus utilizes divergent 60° and 120° orientations, inducing visual disparity that separates surface reflections from underlying colour qualities.
Nautilus's unique polarization diversity creates two distinct visual streams:
This binocular disparity triggers visual rivalry, allowing your visual cortex to process both information layers. The result is a rich visual experience where:
By leveraging this form of visual rivalry, Nautilus offers a new way to perceive the world, separating visual information in a manner impossible with traditional polarization.
Nautilus isn't just about seeing differently – it's a powerful tool across various fields:
Celestial Symphony: Experience the sky's hidden patterns.
Extract reflections from transparency
Stress Unveiled: Witness internal forces come to life in transparent materials.
Liquid Landscapes: Discover a new dimension in reflections and water surfaces.
Notice the new dimensionality at the water surface
Did we mention the Smart target is duck approved?
These images offer a glimpse into the Nautilus experience. While photos can't capture the dynamic, multidimensional nature of seeing thru Nautilus, they illustrate the power of diversity in eyewear. From unveiling hidden patterns in the sky to exposing internal stresses in materials and transforming how we see water, Nautilus opens up a world of visual wonders typically imperceptable to the human experience.
Compare the standard view with the Nautilus effect using the Walleye cross-eye method:

Novus is specially crafted for those with red-green colourblindness, either protanopia or deuteranopia. By engineering filters that shift peak sensitivity to perfectly replicate that of the missing cone, Novus enables you to perceive and enjoy colours as a standard colour observer does—opening up a world of colour previously inaccessible.
The graph above illustrates the spectral transmission properties of Novus Deuteran from 350 to 750 nanometers. The cyan curve represents the left lens, which shifts the peak sensitivity of your long (L) cone to match that of your missing medium (M) cone. The orange straight line represents the right lens, which maintains your long cone response.
The graph above illustrates the spectral transmission properties of Novus Protan from 350 to 750 nanometers. The cyan straight line represents the left lens, which maintains your medium (M) cone response. The orange curve represents the right lens, which shifts the peak sensitivity of your medium (M) cone to match that of your missing long (L) cone.
These images alternate between what your left and right eye would see with Novus, offering an authentic glimpse of the experience. Notice how reds and greens gain dimensionality. While digital representation has limitations, these transitions illustrate how Novus transforms colour perception.
